A native of New York State, Michael began his piano studies at the age of
seven. As an adult, he studied jazz theory with Gary Peacock, piano with Art
Lande and Peggy Stern and drums with Jerry Granelli.
Michael has worked as an orchestral percussionist and bassist for live theatre, as a
bassist with a Bluegrass group, The Old Mountain String Band and as a jazz pianist on
Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Accompanist for members of the Martha Graham
Dance Company he was also the resident composer for the Pendragon Theatre Company,
NY. Michael has also written and produced music for children's dance
programming.
Active on the Montreal scene Michael has performed with many local musicians,
including Skip Bey, Errol Walters, Tommy Babin, Claude LaVerne, and Ed Batley, as well
as singers Geraldine Hunt and Sonia Johnson. Collaborating with Alex Bellegarde on
many projects: Émergence Énergie, MRJ, Éspace Son and
Ensemble Jazz Urbain de Montréal, he continues to develop his concepts, as well
as composing and arranging new works.
